Pregnacare School

Sponsorship of the Pregnancy school

According to Healthline media, pregnancy occurs when a sperm fertilizes an egg after it is released from the ovary during ovulation. The fertilized egg then travels down into the uterus, where implantation occurs. A successful implantation results in a pregnancy.

On average, a full-term pregnancy lasts forty (40) weeks. Many factors can affect a pregnancy. However, women who receive an early pregnancy diagnosis and prenatal care are more likely to experience a healthy pregnancy and give birth to a healthy baby.

This is the motive behind the Pregnancy School, initiated by the Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra. The Pregnancy School enrolls pregnant women from their first trimester through to their final trimester. Each trimester is grouped into a class. Hence, pregnant women in their first trimester (1-3 months) are put in a class, those in their second trimester (4-6 months) are also put in a class and lastly, those in their final trimester (7-9 months) are equally put in a class.

Since each trimester presents different signs and body changes, the expectant mothers are taught the right healthy living.

The Pregnancy School has been in existence for a decade now. Its objective is to educate, sensitize and inform the expectant mothers on healthy lifestyle during pregnancy, which includes; good eating habits (nutrition), prenatal care, proper hygiene among others to generate stronger and healthier expectant mothers and babies. Nevertheless, it is done to combat maternal mortality.

The 2020 /2021 Pregnancy School took off on October 22, 2020 and would end in October 2021. It is held on every third Thursday of the month from 7:00 am to 9:00 am respectively. The successful completion of this course is crowned with a graduation ceremony and the graduates awarded certificates.

De Pull-up foundation, as part of our Women Health and Empowerment programme seeks to educate and enlighten women on health related issues and as such, found it worthy enough to support the Pregnancy School project. On this note, we would donate four (4) crates of soft drinks (malt), packs of biscuit (cream crackers) and bottles of water for the ninety (90) students (expectant mothers) of the 2020/2021 batch incessantly until they graduate.
