POLYCYSTIC‌ ‌OVARY‌ ‌SYNDROME‌ ‌

There are peculiar diseases that affect humans of which women are not exempted. One of the deadliest and life-snatching diseases women face is polycystic ovary syndrome.

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a hormonal disorder causing enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges. It often occurs in women of reproductive age. The ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid and fail to release eggs regularly. This condition is caused by genetic and environmental factors.

An infected woman may experience the following symptoms: abnormal menstruation, absence of menstruation, heavy menstruation, irregular menstruation, short or light menstruation, spotting, obesity, infertility, acne, depression, loss of scalp hair, oily skin or unwanted hair.

Although some diseases can be cured, unfortunately, polycystic ovary syndrome is incurable. However, it can be treated. It is worth noting that; chronic polycystic ovary syndrome can last for years or be lifelong. It can be diagnosed medically after a series of lab tests or imaging at a hospital.

The following treatments are recommended; the use of birth control pills to regularize periods, the use of a medication called metformin to prevent diabetes, statins to control high cholesterol, hormones to increase fertility, procedures to remove excess hair, or the use of hair inhibitors and be on an anti-diabetic medication.

In addition to the above, it is advisable to build a lifestyle, which can aid in the treatment. Electrolysis, physical exercise, and weight loss are but a few lifestyles that can be adopted.
