Free Breast Cancer screening Project 2020

De Pull-up Foundation held a free breast cancer screening during this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This exercise was done in the Ablekumah sub-metro (which includes Korle-Goono, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Ageege, and Kamara).

COVID-19 protocols being observed before screening

As many of you already know, Women’s Health & Empowerment is one of our key thematic areas, among others, and we do our best not to miss any opportunity to help improve the quality of health in the life of the Ghanaian woman. On the beautiful morning of the 31st day of October 2020, at the forecourt of Bukom Lion’s residence (Mamprobi), the free breast cancer screening began.

Truthfully speaking we were expecting roughly 200 women to attend and allow us to check if they had any lumps in their breasts. To our surprise and great pleasure, 438 people came to be checked, that\’s more the two times the expected number of people! And that wasn’t all, out of the 438 people 8 of them were men! We were amazed and excited at the number of people that showed up and it was truly an exciting day.

One of the men was checked for breast lumps.

At the end of the screening, we recorded 18 people in all who had suspected grown tissues (lumps), out of the 18 people 4 of them were men, and the rest of the 14 were women. They were educated on the potential problems those lumps could cause if not treated early and were given some medical advice to help them. And of course, we didn’t forget their item 13, we compensated all those who attended deliciously.

It was a very fruitful exercise and it wouldn’t have been possible without our wonderful partner, Maudloko Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation, our faithful and hardworking team members as well as many amazing supporters and donors who like to remain anonymous.
